Statistics recently published by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank reveal that the demand for emergency food assistance continues to increase, up 31 percent in the past year. The food bank delivers 1 million pounds of food in LA County, some 750,000 meals a week. During the first four months of 2009, an average of 231,359 people received assistance from regional food pantries each month.
