The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published Early Release of Estimates From the National Health Interview Survey, January-March 2011. Findings from the survey show that 46.5 million persons of all ages (15.3%) were uninsured at the time of interview during the first three months of 2011. Other findings:
- The percentage of uninsured young adults (age 18 to 25), dropped from 33.9% in 2010 to 30.4%.
- More than one-third of children (40.2%) were covered by a public plan, compared with 15.9% of adults aged 18-64.
- Almost two-thirds (64.0%) of adults aged 18-64 were covered by a private plan, compared with 54.4% of children under age 18.
- Hispanic persons were more likely than non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, and non-Hispanic Asian persons to be uninsured.
- Among adults who lacked a high school diploma, 30.8% were uninsured.
