Engaging Richmond Moves Research to Action in East End; Recent RPN Community Event and Video Prioritize Mental Well-Being

Since Engaging Richmond identified mental health in 2012 among the top community priorities in the East End of Richmond, the team has continued to partner with Richmond Promise Neighborhood (RPN) to bring resources and information that promote mental well-being to community residents. Among the activities Engaging Richmond has lead in recent months are the production of a mental health resource guide – a comprehensive guide to community mental health services; conducting a Mental Health First Aid training program; and most recently making mental health the focus of an RPN “Info Feast” community event, titled Get Your Mind Right held on March 27, 2014.

Get Your Mind Right, which drew 184 participants and was organized by RPN with the help of 16 of its partner organizations, provided an opportunity for community members to “feast” on practical information about health and well-being and to enjoy good food and entertainment provided by local musicians, poets, and other performers. Engaging Richmond brought the concept for this particular event to RPN and was instrumental in developing the evening’s agenda and in facilitating the event. A video of Get Your Mind Right was unveiled last week by RPN and can be viewed below:

RPN is a collaborative group of community members – families, schools and providers – in the East End of Richmond, working side-by-side and hand-in-hand to improve the education and development of children and youth in the area. Engaging Richmond is proud to support their mission and partner with this great organization to address community priorities in the East End.
