Presentation on Health Equity at Institute of Medicine Committee Meeting

On January 6, 2016, Dr. Steven Woolf gave a presentation on “What Shapes Health (and Health Inequities)”  at the Institute of Medicine Committee on Community Based Solutions to Promote Health meeting in Washington, D.C. The committee was convened at the request of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to examine the evidence on solutions to promote health in the United States.

In his talk, Dr. Woolf outlined the international health disparity among those living in the United States vs. those in other high-income countries and explored the socioeconomic conditions and policies driving health disparities in our country. His presentation included findings from the Center’s Education and Health Initiative, Mapping Life Expectancy Project, Place Matters Project, and the National Health Equity Index Project, among other work.

Other panelists at the January 6 meeting included Camara Jones, President of the American Public Health Association; Rachel Davis, Managing Director, Prevention Institute; Richard Hofrichter, Senior Director, Health Equity, National Association of County and City Health Officials; and Edward Ehlinger, President of ASTHO.
