On August 20, 2015 Engaging Richmond members participated in the 3rd annual East End Community Field Day hosted by Richmond Promise Neighborhood and the Downtown YMCA. This family-friendly event provided opportunities for families to learn about local programs and resources available to help improve the health and well-being of children in the East End. During the event, Engaging Richmond shared important health information such as tips to healthier living, ways to shop and prepare meals in healthy ways, and strategies for overcoming common barriers preventing people from leading healthier lives. Engaging Richmond gave out brochures they developed using information collected during their latest project called the SEED Method, which seeks to create stakeholder-developed research questions on diet compliance for people with diabetes and hypertension. Those attending the Community Day had the opportunity to visit the Engaging Richmond table, where lots of fun was had and games were played, including 3 cup Molly (pictured above) and Jeopardy (pictured below). Participants were asked trivia questions all pertaining to healthy living, and prizes were handed out to everyone that stopped by.

Community residents shared how they enjoyed the fun atmosphere, dancing, and food selection at the event. They liked that not only did kids have fun and learn at this event, but adults did as well. Community volunteers felt the Field Day was a great success and are already looking forward to attending next year.
