The number of home foreclosure filings continued to climb in 2008.  <\/span>The number of foreclosures in 2008 was 81% higher than in 2007, and the 2007 rate was 75% higher than in 2006 (for a total 2-year increase of 225%).  <\/span>According to data from RealtyTrac, 1.84% households received at least one foreclosure filing in 2008, compared to 1.03% in 2007.  <\/span>For 2008, that represents one in every 54 households in foreclosure.  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Foreclosure rates in 2008 were highest in Nevada, Florida, and Arizona.  <\/span>In Nevada, one in 14 households received a foreclosure notice in 2008, an increase of 530% from 2006.  <\/span>In Florida and Arizona, one in 22 households received a foreclosure notice in 2007.  <\/span>While the foreclosure rate more than tripled in some states from the previous year, other states had a reduction in foreclosure rates, including Nebraska, Montana, New York, Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, Mississippi, Alaska, New Mexico, Massachusetts, and Ohio.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
